Sleep apnea syndrome in children

Dr. Adaia Valls comments on how to diagnose Sleep Apnea in children.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome is caused by an obstruction of the airways. At night time, its signs are breathing pauses and suffocation, and at day time it appears as somnolence and chronic fatigue. Until now, this syndrome was linked to a wide range of pathologies in adults, but from today onwards, thanks to the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario Research Institute, a new system to diagnose this problem in children has been developed.

Being able to prevent the adverse effects of certain pathologies is a great scientific advance, and the early diagnosis of Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome and its predisposition provides a very good example of this development.
